Kate is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) who has been working in the field of developmental disabilities for the past ten years. Kate enjoys helping children, teens, young adults and parents to reach their goals to make positive changes in their life and relationship with others.
Kate earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Goucher College and later her graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University. Kate has an extensive background in research and previously managed several treatment focused research studies. This has led to a strong interest in providing evidenced based therapy and continuing to stay aware of current research and advances in the field of mental health.
Kate’s therapy approach is based in cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness and attachment theory. She has specialized training in the Facing Your Fears program for children with autism and anxiety. Kate also is a Registered Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator and has experience working with caregivers both individually and in groups through this program to help them better understand their child’s emotional needs, support their child’s ability to manage their emotions and behavior and strengthen security in the caregiver child relationship. Kate works with families to create therapy goals that are tailored to address their specific concerns and includes children and teens input in treatment planning whenever possible. She has experience with helping families and children to develop coping skills for anxiety, frustration tolerance, emotional and behavioral regulation, executive functioning and to improve social skills.
